Just Visiting: Gill Head Farm

GillHeadGroupon… occasionally you get a gem on Groupon.

If you haven’t had a nosey then go – go now! No – hang on-  go after you read about camping pods and the wonders of Gill Head Farm.

I’m from Yorkshire, we love a good deal, (short arms and deep pockets so the saying goes…) so when a two night camping pod deal came up on Groupon we snapped it up! My good pal Ruth and her two girls came with us for our grand adventure, so we were a merry party of five.

The idea of camping pods is right up my street. I don’t like setting up tents all that much. I don’t like mallets and bent tent pegs all that much. I don’t like undoing loud tent zips in the middle of the night all that much. I do like arriving and having a ready made pod, deep mattresses, picnic table and cute little bit of decking.

The campsite is in the northern fells of the lake district – the backdrop is just stunning. It’s about 15 minutes from Keswick and 45 minutes from Windermere – perfect! It’s a beautiful campsite, there are lovely clean showers and a great play area for the kids, plus two trampolines. Trampolines that apparently hurt Holly and bounce her knees – don’t worry I cured her with a chocolate frog.

It’s a brilliant holiday for kids. There’s something magical about outdoor type holidays. The fresh air – the sound of rain on a wooden roof – lighting a fire in the evening… perfect!

We went into Keswick for the day and wandered through the quaint and beautiful shops. Friars sweet shop is a must! We also visited Hope Park and Beatrix Potter’s Museum (more info on that to follow). The weather is always a bit of a kill joy – our second day was VERY rain filled and the Lakes is a definite outdoor type holiday. We survived and treated ourselves to Italian food to get out of the wet weather. It was a lovely trip! Ruth’s girlies were a little worn out by the whole experience and a mixture of teething – so H & I spent the spent the second night snuggled up just the two of us with a cosy fire.

Camping Pods are definitely something we will do again!

Those tents are the cutest! We love camping (its been awhile since our last tbh) and yes sometimes setting up the tent can be such a chore especially when the weather is not so nice so this is such an awesome trip!

Lovely photos and what a perfect place for a camping trip! Wish we live near! #countrykids

Here, here! Tents can be a real hastle. This was perfect when camping with younger children. Thanks Merlinda!

Such a beautiful area with so much out and about to do but I guess with the gorgeous scenery comes the rain. I’d say exactly the same of here in Cornwall this week. Given a day of rain I would much rather a Pod to return to after a good day out than a tent. I think these are the perfect way to enjoy camping and the campsite looks perfect for young children with the play equipment too. Well done to you for spotting Groupon deal, it really looks like the kids had a blast and hopefully you Mums got to enjoy a glass or two of wine and a good chat.

Thank you for sharing a great adventure on #CountryKids

Couldn’t agree more! A pod in the rain is SO much more bearable! It was an amazing deal at £40 for 2 nights, we really couldn’t complain. We had a bottle of prosecco by the fire 😉 It is the holidays after all!
