Brunch & Lunch in Leeds

Brunch & Lunch in Leeds

One of the worst possible things about working in a school is being SO tied to a timetable. I say one of the worst, because I’m a teacher and we could moan all day about our jobs (haha!) You live and die by term dates and there isn’t any wiggle room. At. All.

Other folk seem to be able to take sunny afternoons off and sit in beer gardens – but not us – oh no – slaves to the classroom… until SUMMER! Then the whole world opens up! Possibility!

So on Monday, my good friend from work Vickie and I spent the whole day exploring places we’d never been before in Leeds. We didn’t want to slip into the same old rut of places we’ve been before or eaten before. So we made a little bar/food hopping plan of places we’d not yet ventured. These are the places we stumbled upon that we’d recommend.

Nuuuuumber one…

Friends of Ham
Great cheese, great meat, great wine, great ale, great atmosphere… do I need to say anything else? Don’t think so – but I will anyway!
we arrived early afternoon and the brunch menu was still being served (if you haven’t eaten then your mouth is about to water) I ordered, hot smoked Bath Chaps with poached eggs & bĂ©arnaise sauce served on toasted sourdough. Yes! Bath Chaps are smoked slices of pig cheek and it was delicious! Vickie had the French Ploughmans and it was gooooooorgeous!

We will definitely return – the appeal of Sunday Night Jazz is calling my name!

Moving on to…

Calls Landing – Stew and Oyster

The Stew and Oyster at Calls Landing has a perfect little outdoor spot overlooking the canal. You can watch the water taxi pootle up and down to the Leeds Dock and enjoy a drink in the breeze.
It’s quirky – fun and quiet! A definite sunny day spot!

Crowd of Favours

Crowd of Favours is on Harper Street in Leeds. It’s a little further from the usual places we’d go for drink/food but I’m glad we adventured. They serve fresh, locally sourced food, have a great range of ales and it’s a lovely building! It was a great place to sit and watch the world go by for an hour or so. They seem to have a good programme of events on during the week so we’ll definitely be back.

Best until last…

Belgrave Music Hall

Now this one is cheating a little because I have been here before – a LOT. However Vickie hadn’t so it’s only half cheating. This is one of my favourite Leeds venues. It’s perfect! The atmosphere is super relaxed, it’s always got a vibrant mix of lovely people and great music. Their rooftop terrace is amazing to spend a few hours in. Plus they have a pizzeria and burger joint in house…

Need I say more?!

If you haven’t been to one of these before they’re all worth a try to a Leeds local.

Hopefully you’re at least a little tempted!

I’ve never been to Crowd of Favours – we don’t usually go that far but it looks worth a look in.

It was great. I’d definitely like to go back on a weekend when it’s busy and bustling.
